Wine Bar & Brunch

In the courtyard
of the mansion

Brunch from eleven. Wine from the afternoon. Open to everyone.

The courtyard

Behind the gate

Apokoronou street is a pedestrian lane two and a half metres wide. Nothing on the street gives away what lies behind the gate.

Sekeria sits in the inner courtyard of an 1880s mansion, between a Venetian stone fountain and an Ottoman sadirvan.

It is open to everyone, not only to hotel guests.

Brunch

From eleven, the courtyard works as a café. Brunch is served at an unhurried pace, built on Cretan produce.

Eggs
Cretan eggs with staka or apaki. Omelettes. Poached eggs and eggs benedict.
Bread and bowls
Avocado toast on sourdough, savoury pancakes, healthy bowls with Greek yoghurt, local honey and nuts.
Sweet
Fluffy pancakes and the handmade sweets of the day.
Drinks
Freshly roasted coffee, traditional choices and fresh juices.

The wine

The wine list

From the afternoon, the courtyard becomes a wine bar.

The list is chosen with care and centres on Greek, and above all Cretan, vineyards. The emphasis is on small growers and on labels that are hard to find elsewhere, such as The Cultist from the Thalassinos winery.

Whites and rosés
Native Cretan varieties: Vidiano, the white jewel of the island, Thrapsathiri, Plyto. And Assyrtiko, for those who start from the familiar.
Reds
Kotsifali and Mandilari, alongside blends that marry Cretan and international varieties, Syrah and Merlot grown on the island.

Served by the glass or by the bottle.

Every label
with its dish

Every label comes with dishes that show it at its best.

Boards of local cheeses and cured meats, bruschettas, handmade ravioli and small plates to share.

The water

The fountain
and the sadirvan

Two water structures survive in the courtyard.

The monumental stone fountain, roughly five metres by three, follows Venetian forms: Renaissance elements carried into a nineteenth-century building. Beside it, an intricate circular sadirvan, the Ottoman fountain.

Two traditions, two aesthetics, the same water.
